would demonstrate great hospitality and feast with his guest as if he
were Christ. However, when he was not in the presence of strangers
seeking shelter, he fasted for up to ten days at a time and dedicated
his efforts to praying all day and most of the night, rarely sleeping
more than two hours a night.
